Suzuki Motor Corp Suspends Production Line in Indonesia

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Japanese auto makers are being forced to shut or trim production in Southeast Asia and Turkey owing to a shortage of parts from Japan since last month's earthquake, The Nikkei reported early Friday.

In Indonesia, Suzuki Motor Corp. will suspend its passenger car production line for three days next week. Daihatsu Motor Co.'s April output is expected to decline around 20% compared with the first three months of this year to around 8,000 units, while Nissan Motor Co. and Toyota Motor Corp. have halted overtime and weekend shifts.
Meanwhile, Toyota suspended operations in the Philippines between Monday and Wednesday ahead of a four-day weekend starting Thursday. Production is expected to resume next week. And in Thailand, Honda Motor Co. and Isuzu Motors Ltd. are slashing daily output by at least 70% and 50%, respectively.
Toyota is halting output at its Turkish plant from Thursday through May 2. The auto maker, which manufactures hatchbacks and minivans at the facility, had targeted a 14% year-on-year production increase to 95,000 units in 2011. It had planned to export 95% of those vehicles to the U.K., Germany, France and other European markets.
Earlier this month, Honda reduced its daily output in Turkey to 46-47 units from the usual 93.
